Morgan Doherty enters her second year as an assistant coach on the Stevens Institute of Technology cross country and track and field staff in 2007-08.
Last season, she assisted Head Coach John Crawford in guiding the men’s and women’s cross country squads to a second-place finish at the Skyline Conference Championships as well as a first-place showing at the Highlander Invitational. Doherty also lent a hand in sending five members of the men’s team to the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Prior to Stevens, Doherty was a member of the St. Lawrence running teams for four years. She was also the co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years and a student delegate for the Faculty Search Committee in 2002. Moreover, Doherty was a part of the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic team for four years and a recipient of the senior scholar-athlete award from the SLU Athletic Department in 2004.
As a freshman, Doherty was a part of the Saints’ cross country team that earned a trip to the national championships. As a junior, she earned a trip to nationals as an individual and competed in the steeplechase event.
Doherty has also run her way into the St. Lawrence record books. As of today, she is still a member of the school’s record-holding distance-medley relay team, but her record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was finally broken in 2007.
Off the field, Doherty learned the fundamentals of track and field in high school and helped coordinate local recreation camps for elementary students. She is still currently a member of the Hoboken Harriers and competes in their cross country and road-race seasons. Doherty is also an admissions counselor at Stevens.
Doherty graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2004 with a double major in English and Theatre.
