Morgan Doherty

Morgan Doherty enters her third year as an assistant coach on the Stevens Institute of Technology cross country and track and field staff in 2007-08.

During the 2007-08 seasons, Doherty guided the men and women cross country teams to a total of five invitational titles. At the NCAA Division III Regional Championship, the men took 26th out of 34 squads, while the women placed 16th out of 37.

For the track and field seasons, Doherty helped to produce 15 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference qualifiers on the men's side and four from the women's team. A total of eight women received Empire 8 athletic accolades, while the man landed six all-stars.

In 2006-07, she assisted Head Coach John Crawford in guiding the men’s and women’s cross country squads to a second-place finish at the Skyline Conference Championships as well as a first-place showing at the Highlander Invitational. Doherty also lent a hand in sending five members of the men’s team to the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

For the second summer in a row, Doherty has served as a marathon training coach with the Team for Kids under the New York Roadrunner’s fundraising body. The Team for kids raises money to develop athletic programs for New York City school districts that do not have the funds to run these programs. In addition, Doherty returned to Camillus, N.Y. to head a summer camp that she coached at during her high school days. The camp is a program teaches the fundamentals of track and field in an effort in increase awareness and fluency in the sport for kids in grades fourth to sixth.

Prior to Stevens, Doherty was a member of the St. Lawrence running teams for four years. She was also the co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years and a student delegate for the Faculty Search Committee in 2002. Moreover, Doherty was a part of the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic team for four years and a recipient of the senior scholar-athlete award from the SLU Athletic Department in 2004. She also received magna cum laude honors, Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa during her commencement.

As a freshman, Doherty was a part of the Saints’ cross country team that earned a trip to the national championships. As a junior, she earned a trip to nationals as an individual and competed in the steeplechase event.

Doherty has also run her way into the St. Lawrence record books. As of today, she is still a member of the school’s record-holding distance-medley relay team, but her record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was finally broken in 2007.

Off the field, Doherty is currently a member of the Hoboken Harriers and competes in their cross country and road-race seasons. Doherty is also an admissions counselor at Stevens.

Doherty graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2004 with a double major in English and Theatre.
