Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Celine Cunningham announced the hiring of Casey Quinn as her top assistant in August of 2014.
Quinn comes to Stevens after spending the last two years at Slippery Rock University as an assistant coach. The New Jersey native served as a student assistant at The Rock after an excellent playing career there as well. She graduated in December of 2012 with a degree in physical education.
“We are very excited to welcome Casey to our Stevens lacrosse family as her passion and energy make her a great fit for our program,” said Cunningham. “She was a catalyst in the success of her team as a player and I am looking forward to see the impact she will make on our program.”
As a coach, Quinn played a major role in recruitment of high-level student-athletes, fundraising, practice planning and implementation, travel and much more. She also has coached for a variety of camps and clubs such as the Intrepid Lacrosse Club, Impact Lacrosse Camp, Sparta Lacrosse Camp and Mad Dawg Lacrosse Camp.
Quinn, who played her last season at Slippery Rock in 2012, left the program as one of the most decorated players to ever wear the Green and White. She was voted by her teammates as the Most Valuable Player on the team in each of her four years and is the second leading scorer in school history. Quinn tallied 150 goals and handed out 30 assists for 180 points and is one of only two players in Slippery Rock history to reach the 150-point mark, let alone the 150-goal mark.
Quinn was a two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection and also was an All-Region selection by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Following her senior year, she was invited to play in the IWLCA North/South Senior All-Star game.
Quinn is the all-time leader in Slippery Rock history in career ground balls (160) and caused turnovers (92), ranks second in career goals (150) and points (180), ranks fourth in career assists (30) and draw controls (132) and ranks fifth in total games played (62).
A native of Vernon, N.J., Quinn was part of the first recruiting class at Slippery Rock for Hopkins and was one of the essential pieces to the program’s drastic turnaround. Before her freshman season, The Rock went winless in back-to-back seasons. The team won five games her freshman year, seven her sophomore year, 11 her junior year and set the all-time single season wins record with 12 wins in her senior year.
Quinn will have a hand in all aspects of the women’s lacrosse program at Stevens and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Athletic Administration.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to work at a place like Stevens,” said Quinn. “I have heard nothing but great things about the program and the student-athletes and am looking forward to a great year.”
