Karen Shaddock is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team after spending one year as an assistant coach at Williams College and two seasons as the head coach of Lycoming College. Additionally, Shaddock has made stops as the head coach at Medaille College and the assistant coach at Rochester Institute of Technology.

In her first six seasons with the Ducks, Shaddock has led Stevens to the conference Tournament Championship game four three (2019, 2022, 2023, 2024). She has also coached 12 conference players of the year, won the 2023 and 2024 MAC Freedom Coach of the Year, and helped Bednarski win the 2020 Inside Lacrosse DiIII National Player of the Year Award.NCAA Tournament Appearances

Lance Head Coach
  • Has won three straight MAC Freedom Championships and been to the second round of the last three NCAA Tournaments
  • Led the Ducks to the conference championship game in 2019 (Empire 8), 2021, 2022 and 2023, 2024 (MAC Freedom)
  • Helped Stevens knock off No. 9 York for the program's first win over a top-10 opponent since 2010 in 2023
  • Won a total of nine games in her first season as the head coach of the Ducks
  • Currently sits as just the third coach in the program’s history
  • Helped Kyra Bednarski become the first student-athlete in program history to be named National Player of the Year in 2020
  • After starting the year 3-7 in 2019, Shaddock was able to go 6-3 down the stretch to advance to the Empire 8 Tournament
  • Directed the Ducks to an 11-6 win over Utica College in the Empire 8 Tournament semifinals to advance to the Tournament title game in 2019

At Lycoming Head Coach
  • Compiled 22 victories in two seasons as the head coach of the Warriors
  • Coached Meghann Jackson, the program’s first-ever MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Year award
  • Advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Championship in 2017
  • Defeated Lebanon Valley in the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Tournament quarterfinal to advance to the semifinals for the first time in seven years
  • Led the Warriors to 12 wins in her first season, the third-most in program history
At Medaille Head Coach
  • Left Medaille as the program’s all-time wins leader with a 20-13 record in her two years
  • Led the Mavericks to an 11-5 record in her first year as a head coach
  • Helped Medaille earn its first Northeastern Athletic Conference tournament bid
  • Coached a total of 10 All-NEAC selections in two years
  • Served as the school’s sports information director, NCAA compliance contact and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor
  • Earned the Medaille College Most Outstanding Staff Member Award in 2014
SUNY Buffalo State Student-Athlete
  • Was named to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team in 2020 for her stellar performance on the field 
  • Concluded her career as one of the most decorated scorers in NCAA, compiling 457 points of 72 career contests
  • Earned four IWLCA All-Empire Region selections
  • Was a four-time All-SUNYAC performer and received Second Team IWLCA All-America recognition as a senior
  • Was tabbed SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and also earned All-American honors from WomensLacrosse.com, becoming the first player in program history to earn All-American distinction in 2009
  • Still in possession of multiple Buffalo State scoring records, Shaddock left the school ranked fourth in NCAA history, regardless of division, in career points
  • Tied for the third-fastest goal in Division III history (:06 seconds against SUNY Geneseo on May 1, 2009) and led Division III in points (150) as a senior
  • Was named to the Buffalo State Hall of Fame October of 2018
  • Graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in individualized studies

  • Completed her master’s degree in sport leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2022.
  • Also served as an assistant coach for Rochester Institute of Technology in 2015
  • In her addition to her coaching duties at RIT and Medaille, Shaddock also served in both school’s Sports Information office.
