Emily Ottenhoff begins her fourth season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Stevens. Ottenhoff arrived at Castle Point after two years as an assistant at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an illustrious playing career at fellow D-III power Calvin College.
Last year, Ottenhoff was part of the Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the year after leading the Ducks to the NCAA Sweet 16. Ottenhoff saw Raba Nassif claim E8 Player of the Year and Second Team All-American honors by D3Soccer.com, while freshman Zisi Komar was tabbed E8 Rookie of the Year. Nassif also claimed All-American honors by the NSCAA in addition to being named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year.
In her first year as assistant, Ottenhoff helped the Ducks to a 10-9 overall record and a trip to the Empire 8 Conference semifinals. Four members of the team were named to the all-conference team and Raba Nassif was chosen as Rookie of the Year - the fourth straight selection for Stevens.
In January 2014, she was named one of the Rising Stars within the coaching profession by the NSCAA.
“We felt right from the start that Emily would be a good fit for our program,” Parker said. “She is an outstanding asset as a coach, recruiter, manager as well as an incredible role-model for our student athletes. Emily is above all an incredible mentor and person. It is no coincidence that our continued rise as a program has coincided with her time here on campus.”
Ottenhoff served two years as a part of the Rose-Hulman women’s soccer staff, following a stint as the freshman coach at Holland Christian High School and a year working at her alma mater in 2010.
During her playing career at Calvin, Ottenhoff was awarded Most Valuable Player honors in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and was a second-team All-American, first-team all-region and first-team all-league honoree in 2009. A two-time first team All-MIAA selection and four-time NCAA Tournament participant, Ottenhoff concluded her Calvin career with 32 goals, 11 assists and 75 points. Of her 32 career goals, 13 were game-winners. One of those game-winners came in a 1-0 second round NCAA Tournament victory over Wittenberg University.
She was also a four-year member of the college’s successful basketball program. She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in health education at Calvin in 2011 and earned her master’s in Coaching Science at Indiana State University.
