Valerie Barnhart enters her second season with the Stevens Institute of Technology after joining the women’s soccer coaching staff in 2008. Barnhart, a 2006 graduate of Stevens with a B.S. in Computer Science, was a standout athlete at Stevens. She lettered in soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and equestrian from 2001-06.

Last season Barnhart helped lead the Ducks to a 15-5-2 mark en route to their second straight ECAC Metro Championship.

Barnhart was a member of the women’s soccer team from 2001-04 as she helped to lead the squad to conference titles in 2003 and 2004. In addition, all four years she saw the squad reach postseason play. In 2001 the women’s soccer team was an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association Mid-Atlantic Region Semifinalist. The following three years, the squad was an NCAA New York Region semifinalist.

Barnhart is still the career leader for goals (87) and points (207). She holds a 54 goal lead and a 124 point advantage in the record books. Barnhart has played in 82 contests as a Duck during her four-year career and is second all-time in assists for a career with 33. She was a three-time first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Northeast region selection from 2002-04.

In 2005, she landed second-team All-America honors. Barnhart received first-team league honors from the Skyline Conference all four years and was named the Rookie of the Year her freshman season. She went on to be named the Co-Player of the Year in 2003 and the Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the league championship in 2004.

As a member of the women’s lacrosse team from 2002-05, Barnhart earned all-conference honors and was an All-ECAC selection each of her years as a Duck. In 2005 she landed second-team All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Barnhart holds the record at Stevens for the most ground balls (210), shots on goal (417), points (365) and goals scored (298).

Barnhart was a member of the Stevens Co-Op program, which extends a students academic career to five years instead of the traditional four. She exhausted her four years of soccer, however tested her skills at field hockey in 2005. She recorded 13 goals in 17 games played. She currently leads in career points per game with an average of 1.88 (32 points, 17 games).

Aside from her stellar athletic accomplishments, Barnhart holds a position with the American Insurance Group in New York, N.Y. She is currently a Business Systems Analyst at AIG as she resides in Bayonne, N.J.
