Ed Willis

Ed Willis enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team in 2009-10.

In 2008-09, Willis helped guide the Ducks to a program-record 12 wins. Stevens finished fifth at the conference championships and helped guide freshman Ryan Dormann to a conference title and trip the the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

In 2007-08, Willis helped guide the Ducks to an 8-4 record, which was the best finish since wrestling returned to Hoboken in 2004-05. He also was an intricate part in helping lead Brandon MacWhinnie to a third-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships and All-America accolades.

As a student-athlete, Willis wrestled for the Bobcats of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he compiled 73 career wins during his three years of competition. He was also tabbed as the team captain for two seasons. In addition, Willis was a four-time letter-winner and a three-year starter for Ohio at the 174-lb. weight class. During his time at Ohio, Willis produced three 20-plus win seasons. 

In his sophomore year, Willis placed second at the 2003 Mid-American Conference Championships and was an alternate for the NCAA Championships. He also led the nation in overall wins in his weight class during the 2002-03 season. At the end of the year, Willis was picked to compete in Europe for the 2003 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-American tour, where he wrestled against various national teams while traveling through Greece and Bulgaria.

In his freshman campaign, Willis was a member of the 2001 MAC Championship squad. During his time off the mat, he was an associate of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Prior to Stevens, Willis worked as a manufacturing quality engineer for Armor Holdings Aerospace and Defense Group located in Cincinnati, Ohio. In his time there, Willis worked in the Component Armor Manufacturing Operation Division where he was responsible for military HMMWV armor prototyping and production.

Willis, who currently resides in Hoboken, N.J., graduated from Stevens in May of 2008 with his master’s degree in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering along with a graduate certificate in Project Management.  Willis currently works for Zimmer Trabecular Metal Technology as a CVD Process Engineer specializing in orthopedic implants.
