Ryan Erasmus is a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he has served the department since 2022 while also leading the Ducks’ competitive lifting program.
In his role, Erasmus provides strength and conditioning programming and exercise prescription for Stevens varsity teams, while serving as the Head Coach of the Stevens Lifting Team, which competes in Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting.
Erasmus brings more than two decades of experience in high-performance sport, strength coaching, and sports analysis to Stevens Athletics. Prior to joining Stevens, he was the owner and head coach of Hoboken Barbell LLC from 2018 to 2022, a USA Weightlifting and USA Powerlifting affiliate club. During that time, he coached athletes competing at both the local and national levels and also served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Bayonne Bombers Rugby Team. He holds a USA Weightlifting Level 2 Sports Performance Coaching certification.
From 2012 to 2018, Erasmus was the co-owner and head Olympic weightlifting coach at CrossFit Hoboken, where he developed and implemented training programs, led seminars and training camps, and oversaw all weightlifting methodologies within the gym. His work emphasized long-term athletic development, technical proficiency, and competitive readiness.
Earlier in his career, Erasmus owned and operated SPECUTEC LLC in New York from 2008 to 2012, providing professional sports video analysis, performance consulting, and fitness programming for collegiate and national-level teams and individual athletes. His client list included USA Rugby, Columbia University’s Old Blue Rugby Club, the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association, and the Printing House Fitness and Squash Club. Prior to relocating to the United States, Erasmus managed SPECUTEC CC in South Africa from 2001 to 2008, delivering video analysis and high-performance services for rugby, soccer, field hockey, squash, and cricket organizations, including Eastern Province Rugby, the South African Hockey Team, the Springbok Under-21 World Cup Rugby Team, and the Namibian Rugby Team during World Cup qualification.
As an athlete, Erasmus enjoyed an accomplished international competitive career in Olympic weightlifting. He earned South African national titles from 1995 to 2001 and represented South Africa at numerous international events, including the Commonwealth Games, African Games, World Junior Championships, and African Championships. As a Masters competitor in the United States, he has captured multiple national and world titles, including gold medals at the World Masters Weightlifting Championships and World Masters Games. He is a multi-time American Masters National Champion and currently holds American Masters national records, Commonwealth Masters records, and New Jersey state records in both weightlifting and powerlifting, including world records in the squat and bench press.
Erasmus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Human Movement Science from the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, completing a five-year program specializing in biokinetics and sport science. He also holds an IWF Olympic Solidarity Coaching Certificate and brings extensive expertise in sports analysis software, including Sportscode, Gamebreaker, and CODA, to his role at Stevens.
