HOBOKEN, N.J. – Freshman Edouard Bordet (New York, NY/Lycee Francais) scored two goals, including the game winner to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 3-1 win over Wilkes University in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Saturday at DeBaun Field.
Stevens earned its sixth straight win to improve to 10-2. Wilkes drops to 4-8-2.
With the Ducks’ leading scorer, Brian Marks (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), sidelined with a bruised thigh suffered on Wednesday against FDU-Florham, Bordet was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time. He made the most of his opportunity by putting Stevens ahead just 9:04 into the game when he finished off a cross from fellow freshman Collin Clatonoff (Phoenix, AZ/University).
The Ducks carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Colonels scored the tying goal early in the second half. Mike Bridy headed a free kick from the far post into the goal mouth where Greg Halady scored from close range at 56:08.
Stevens continued to apply pressure and reclaimed the lead at 72:00. Sophomore Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) broke in the left side of the box and fired a shot on net. Wilkes goalkeeper Justin Bagley stopped the initial shot, but Bordet tapped in the rebound to put the Ducks ahead to stay. It was Bordet’s sixth goal in seven games in which he has played this season.
Ottinger added an insurance goal when he beat Bagley to the far post with a low drive from 15 yards at the 81:07 mark. Stevens held a 22-7 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Stevenson stopped four shots for the Ducks to improve to 9-1. Bagley made nine saves for Wilkes.
The Ducks return to action on Wednesday, October 16, when they host Albright in a 7 p.m. game at DeBaun Field.
