UNION, N.J. – Sophomore forward Milia George (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) scored 2:59 into the second period of sudden death overtime to give Stevens Institute of Technology a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Kean University on Saturday.
Stevens rallied from a two-goal deficit early in the second half to win its fourth straight. The Ducks improve to 8-3. Kean drops to 6-5-1.
Sophomore forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area), who scored a pair of second-half goals to force overtime, sent a pass from the left wing into the box where George converted the game-winning goal. It marked the first time in coach Jeff Parker’s tenure that the Ducks rallied from a two-goal deficit to win. The victory also gave Parker 31 wins at Stevens, making him the program’s all-time winningest coach.
A goal by Kati Bertelson at the 46:02 mark gave Kean a 3-1. But Stevens answered back just two minutes later. Barnhart scored at 48:11 and again at 49:23 with George assisting on both goals to pull the Ducks even at 3-3.
The teams traded goals in the first half. Johanna Tornquist scored for Kean in the eighth minute before sophomore Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, MD/Damascus) answered for Stevens in the 19th minute. The Cougars recaptured the lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Lyndsay Burne.
Stevens held a commanding 21-5 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Rommy Guevara (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) stopped two shots for Stevens. Jess Kogel made 12 saves for Kean.
