HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.  The bid is the first for the women’s soccer program and also the first for a women’s team sport at Stevens.

Stevens (12-6-1) will host Johns Hopkins University (14-5-2) on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at DeBaun Field.  The game also marks the first NCAA Tournament game to be held on the Hoboken campus.

Stevens captured its third consecutive Skyline Conference championship with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play.  With only five schools sponsoring women’s soccer, the Skyline does not receive an automatic bid.  The addition of Centenary and Old Westbury next season will give the conference the required seven schools for automatic qualification.

The Ducks are led by sophomore forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) who has 22 goals and seven assists for a school-record 51 points.  Barnhart scored four goals in a 7-0 win over Centenary in the regular-season finale, giving her exactly 100 points in her two-year career.  Sophomore Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) has 30 points on eight goals and a team-leading 14 assists.  Sophomore Milia George (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) has 22 points on six goals and 10 assists.

John’s Hopkins earned an automatic bid by capturing the Centennial Conference championship with a 3-0 win over Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon.  The Blue Jays are led by freshman Meg McIntosh who has scored a team leading nine goals despite playing only eight games.  McIntosh was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the conference championship game.  Sophomore Kathleen Turley leads Johns Hopkins with 20 points on eight goals and four assists.

Wednesday’s game will be the first meeting between the two schools in women’s soccer.  John’s Hopkins is making its third NCAA Tournament appearance (1997, 1998).  The teams have played two common opponents this season.  Both Stevens and Johns Hopkins lost to Dickinson, and both teams beat Washington College.

Tickets will be $4 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and students with an ID, and $1 for children under the age of 12.
