HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore forward Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored one goal and added three assists to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 6-0 win over William Paterson University in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III Metro Men’s Soccer Championship on Wednesday night at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (15-4-2), the top seed in the eight-team tournament, will host the winner of Thursday’s game between New Jersey City University and St. Joseph’s-Patchogue. William Paterson finishes its season at 8-9-1.
Ottinger scored the only goal the Ducks would need when he broke in the top right corner of the box on a partial breakaway and fired a shot from 12 yards to the lower left corner at 25:42. Five minutes later, freshman Tom Ficchi (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) intercepted a clearing pass at the top of the penalty area and scored on a drive from 18 yards at 30:36 at Stevens carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Senior Giuseppe Incitti (River Edge, N.J./Bergen Catholic) then put the game away with a pair of goal in a four-minute span early in the second half. He headed in a cross from Ottinger at 50:02. He then took a pass through the middle from Ottinger and connected from 15-yards to the lower right corner at 53:39.
Freshmen Chris Barsky (Council Rock, Pa./Council Rock) and Edouard Bordet (New York, N.Y./Lycee Francais) also added goals for the Ducks in the second half.
Stevens held a 29-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) and freshman Jorge DaSilva (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) combined for three saves to earn the shutout for the Ducks. Chris Auriano (three saves) and Mike Fedorczyk (six saves) split time in net for the Pioneers. Fedorczyk also stopped a penalty kick in the second half.
