Women's Basketball Falls to Albright in Scotty Wood Consolation Game, 58-48

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lauren Finnigan had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Anne Dougherty contributed 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Albright College to a 58-48 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the consolation game of the Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg College.

Albright (1-1) never trailed in the game.  A jumper by Stevens junior Aracely Cruz (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) tied the game at 11-11 with 12:15 left in the first half.  Dougherty converted a conventional three-point play and Finnegan added a steal and a layup, giving the Lions a 16-11 lead with 10:47 left.

The Ducks got within three points, 22-19, on a layup by junior Sheryl Cwiekalo (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) with 7:35 remaining in the half.  But Albright scored six straight points to push the lead to 28-19 and held Stevens scoreless for a stretch of nearly six minutes.  Senior Vanessa Williams Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris) broke the drought with two free throws with 1:41 left.

Albright twice led by as many as 12 points in the second half.  Stevens pulled to within six points, 49-43, on a layup by Cruz with 4:55 left, but freshman Kim Serfass sank a pair of free throws and Dougherty scored on a putback with 3:32 remaining to push the lead back up to ten points.

Cruz led Stevens with 12 points and four assists while senior guard Mia Molfino (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) added 11 points.  Williams added seven points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Ducks were held to just 30.9 percent shooting for the game.

Stevens returns to action on Tuesday, November 26, when it hosts Scranton in a 7 p.m. game.
