Men's Soccer Pulls Away From William Paterson for 14th Straight Win, 4-2

Chris Barsky is perfect in three penalty kick opportunities this season.

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Chris Barsky (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) snapped a tie game with a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to lift No. 14 Stevens Institute of Technology to a 4-2 win over William Paterson University in a men’s soccer match on Wednesday at DeBaun Field.

Stevens earned its 14th straight win to improve to 15-1-2.  William Paterson falls to 3-11-2.

Barsky beat William Paterson goalkeeper Mike Blanton to the lower right corner at 62:29 after sophomore Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was taken down from behind in the penalty area.

Stevens grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by junior Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) in the 28th minute and freshman Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) in the 39th minute.

William Paterson battled back as freshman Michael Petracca scored from close range off an assist from senior Dave Szeller at 42:48.  The Pioneers pulled even early in the second half as sophomore Kevin Dougherty gained control of a loose ball in the Stevens penalty area and chipped a shot over goalkeeper Sean Stevenson at 48:38.

After Barsky’s penalty kick, Marks added an insurance goal at 69:41, extending the Stevens lead to 4-2.

Stevens held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 14-1 edge in corner kicks.  Blanton stopped nine shots for the Pioneers while Stevenson had five saves for the Ducks.

Stevens closes out its regular season on Saturday, November 1, at home with a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game against Centenary College. Stevens will host a semifinal game in the Skyline Conference Tournament on Wednesday, November 5, at 7 p.m.
