Women's Volleyball Ties Single-Season Wins Mark With 3-0 Victory Over Mount St. Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior middle hitter Vanessa Williams (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris) had 12 kills as the Stevens women’s volleyball team closed out its regular season with a 3-0 (30-12, 30-17, 30-16) win over Mount St. Vincent on Monday in a Skyline Conference match.

Stevens, which improves to 21-13, tied the single-season record for wins.  The 1993 squad, which went 21-2, established the record for wins.

Williams’ 12 kills were a season-high for a three-game match.  She previously had 14 kills in five-game matches with New Jersey City and Kings Point earlier in the season.

Junior Margeritte Abdelkodoos (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) had five kills, six service aces and 16 digs for Stevens.  Sophomore Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day) added six kills and seven digs.  Sophomore setter Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) had 26 assists along with three kills, nine digs and three total blocks.

The Ducks also received five kills from senior Dominique Gonzalez (Verona, N.J./Verona) and 11 digs from sophomore ManYan Cheng (Jersey City, N.J./McNair).

Stevens opens play in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Wednesday, November 5, with a 7:30 p.m. match at Farmingdale State.  The winner of the Skyline Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
