Women's Fencing Splits Four Matches, Earning Victories Over Johns Hopkins and Haverford

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Junior Lauren Fuchs (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) and sophomore Andrea Chimel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) each went 9-3 in four matches as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team split four matches on Saturday.

Stevens began the day with losses to Brandeis (10-17) and Temple (6-21), but earned victories over Johns Hopkins (19-8) and Haverford (15-12).  The Ducks are now 8-2 on the season.

Led by Fuchs and Chimel, Stevens received a strong effort from its epee fencers who went a combined 24-4. Senior Ilyana Martinez also recorded five victories in 11 matches.

Junior Rensie Punsal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) recorded a 6-5 mark in the foil while senior Catherine Oldfield (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) went 6-6 in the saber.
