HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior midfielder Jess Soltysik (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) scored five goals, including three in the first 3:25 to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 24-3 win over Alvernia College in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game at DeBaun Field.
Soltysik scored just 1:23 into the game and sophomore midfielder Valerie Barhnart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) followed with an unassisted goal just 29 seconds later. Soltysik followed at 3:09 and again at 3:25 as the Ducks built a quick 4-0 lead. Stevens (2-0) led 10-0 just nine minutes into the game.
Alvernia (0-1) got on the board at the 22:48 mark on a goal by sophomore Tracy Pyne, making the score 14-1. Pyne accounted for all three Crusader goals, scoring twice in the second half.
Twelve different players scored for Stevens. Senior attack Emma Tejada (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) and sophomore midfielder Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored three goals each. The Ducks also had four players with two goals each – Barnhart, sophomore Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), junior Juliet Pullis (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and sophomore Mary Schurgot (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional).
Stevens held a 48-14 advantage in shots. Senior Kristine Conley (Ossining, N.Y./Our Lady of Victory) made six saves for the Ducks. Sophomore Becky Peal made 15 saves for Alvernia.
Stevens returns to action this Saturday, March 8, when it hosts Plymouth State in a 1 p.m. game.
