MADISON, N.J. – Freshman forward Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles A. Lindbergh) scored three goals to lead the Stevens women’s soccer team to a 6-2 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday.
Stevens (3-3) scored the first three goals and never trailed. Junior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from junior Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) in the fourth minute to give the Ducks the early lead.
Dean then scored consecutive goals at 27:37 and 29:55 to give Stevens a 3-0 lead. FDU sophomore Ashleigh Hoey scored the first of her two goals in the 37th minute to trim the lead to 3-1 at halftime.
Stevens added two its lead at the 56:45 mark when senior Betty Assefa (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) scored off a corner kick. Dean then completed the hat trick in the 66th minute, finishing off a pass from Barnhart.
Stevens held a 26-17 advantage in shots. Freshman goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) stopped six shots for the Ducks. Melissa Braun had 12 saves for FDU-Florham.
Stevens returns to action on Wednesday, September 17, with a 7 p.m. game at William Paterson.
