HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior Christina Butcher and sophomore Andrea Kaiser had eight kills apiece as SUNY-New Paltz earned a 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-22) win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday in a women’s volleyball match at the Canavan Arena.
New Paltz (1-3) also received 15 digs from junior Denee Miggins and 10 digs from sophomore Kelly Long.
The opening game was tied at 22-22 before New Paltz ran off eight straight points. Stevens jumped out strong in the second game, taking an 18-13 lead. New Paltz rallied by scoring 10 of the next 12 points to open up a 23-20 lead. The Hawks were in control throughout the third game, opening up a 17-7 lead en route to the three-game victory.
Stevens (2-2) was led by junior Margeritte Abdelkodoos (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) who had a match-high 10 kills with 15 digs. She also served four consecutive aces in the opening game. Sophomore Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day) contributed 11 digs while sophomore Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) added 12 assists and six digs.
Stevens is next in action on Saturday, September 6 when it travels to Scranton, Pa., to participate in the Marywood Quad.
