 Brian Marks scored twice in the Ducks' win over Delaware Valley |
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore forward Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) scored two goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Delaware Valley College on Friday in the first game of the Mule Invitational at Muhlenberg College.
Stevens (1-0-1) scored two goals in the first ten minutes and was never threatened. Junior Adam Kalbermatten (Allentown, Pa./Central Catholic) scored in the third minute off an assist from senior John Quintanilla (Phoenix, Ariz./University) to give the Ducks a quick lead. Marks followed in the ninth minute off an assist from sophomore Steve Liebezeit (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes). Stevens carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Ducks extended their lead to 3-0 when Marks finished off a pass from freshman Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) in the 56th minute.
Delaware Valley (0-3) averted the shutout in the 80th minute when sophomore Tarweh Witherspoon scored off an assist from Scott Burcik.
Stevens dominated the game statistically, holding a 22-10 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) stopped four shots for Stevens. Sophomore Chris Zirpoli had 10 saves for Delaware Valley.
Stevens resumes play in the Mule Invitational on Saturday, September 6, when it faces host Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m.
