HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior outside hitter Margeritte Abdelkodoos (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) recorded team-highs of 12 kills and four service aces along with five digs to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-17, 30-22, 30-28) victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday night.
Stevens which improved to 22-2 overall, set a school record for wins, eclipsing the old mark of 21 set in 1993 and 2003. The Ducks also closed out Skyline Conference play with a perfect 8-0 record. Stevens, the top seed in the conference tournament, will host the semifinals and championship on Nov. 6. Mount Saint Vincent drops to 6-9 overall and 1-7 in Skyline play.
Abdelkodoos, who was honored on Senior Night, sparked the Ducks with 12 kills and just four errors in 28 attempts (.286 hitting percentage).
Stevens also received a strong match from sophomore outside hitter Micki Biltz (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) who contributed nine kills with just one error in 13 attempts. She also added eight digs and four assists.
Freshman JoAnne Pojuner (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) had seven kills in 13 attempts. Defensively, the Ducks were led by junior libero Man Yan Cheng (Jersey City, N.J./McNair) who had nine digs in just two games.
Junior setter Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) had 24 assists, five digs and two service aces.
Stevens returns to action on Saturday, October 23, when it hosts Baruch, Hunter and Ripon (Wisc.) in round-robin play beginning at 9 a.m.
