HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens women’s swimming team placed in the top two positions in the last six events of the day, but dropped a close decision to Manhattan College 89-83 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Ducks drop to 1-2.
Manhattan built a early 75-15 lead before swimming exhibition races in five of the last six events.
Senior Rebecca Brancato (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) and junior Diana Rooney (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) led the Ducks with top finishes in two individual races and helped the 200 yard medley relay to a second place finish. Brancato earned a third place finish in the 200 IM and a first place finish in the 100 back, while Rooney swam to a third place finish in the 50 free and finished first in the 100 free.
Sophomore Katelyn Forstell (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) placed in two events for the Ducks, earning second place finishes in the 100 free and 100 breast.
In the 100 butterfly, Stevens had top finishes by juniors Jessica Pruzinsky (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) and Karen Berg (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) who placed first and second respectively.
Freshman Christine Couzo (Sayerville, N.J./Sayerville War Memorial) and teammate sophomore Ayse Figanmese (Northampton, Pa./George School) each earned second place finishes in the 100 back and 500 free.
Senior Michelle Aranowski (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) had a top finish for the Ducks and placed first in the 100 breast. She was also a part of the second place 200 medley relay team.
In the last event of the day, Couzo, Berg, freshman Chrissy McDaniels (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) and Figanmese produced a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Stevens women will return to action on Saturday, October 30 when they compete at the Union Relays.
