WAYNE, N.J. – Senior forward Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored twice and assisted on another tally to lead the fifth-ranked Stevens men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over William Paterson on Wednesday night at Wightman Soccer Park.
The victory was the 11th straight for the Ducks (17-1-1), who snapped the Pioneers’ (4-13) two-match winning streak.
Ottinger opened the scoring 11:16 into the action by grounding his 15th goal of the season past William Paterson sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Nuss. He assisted on a score by junior Brian Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) at the 25:12 mark and added his second score of the contest 50:58 into the action.
William Paterson’s lone tally came 28:43 into the match off a penalty kick by sophomore Jay Hooper after he was taken down in the box. The Pioneers nearly tied the game shortly thereafter, but were offside on the play.
Sophomore Chris Celentano (Newton, NJ/Newton) made two saves for the Ducks, while Nuss stopped three shots for the Pioneers. Each team took nine shots, although Stevens owned a 3-1 edge on corner kicks.
Stevens closes out its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30, with a 4 p.m. home match vs. Farmingdale State.
