HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior outside hitter Anita Staven recorded 19 kills, 18 digs and four total blocks to lead Vassar College to a 3-1 (30-25, 16-30, 30-28, 30-27) victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in a women’s volleyball match at the Canavan Arena.
Vassar improves to 10-7. Stevens, which had its seven-match winning streak snapped, falls to 15-2.
Stevens held a 17-12 lead in the fourth game. With the Ducks looking to push the match to a deciding game, the Brewers rallied, eventually taking a 26-25 lead. The opening game was also tied at 24-24 before Vassar pulled away with five straight points.
Vassar also received 10 kills and four service aces from freshman middle hitter Cat Foley. Freshman setter Stephanie Yee recorded 24 assists, eight digs and two blocks.
Stevens was paced by freshman outside hitter Dawn Herring (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) who had 14 kills with just two errors in 34 attempts. She added 12 digs and two service aces. Senior outside hitter Margeritte Abdelkodoos (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day) and sophomore Micki Biltz (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) added six kills apiece.
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, October 9, when it hosts Farmingdale State and Rutgers-Camden in a tri-match beginning at 10 a.m.
