HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior attack Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) had six goals and two assists and junior midfielder Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) added a goal and five assists to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 21-4 win over FDU-Florham on Wednesday night in a women’s lacrosse game at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (4-0) built a 12-4 halftime lead and did not allow a goal in the second half. Barnhart gave Stevens the initial lead when she scored 1:37 into the game off an assist from senior Lindy Gibbons (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy). After Stevens junior Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored at the 5:51 mark, FDU-Florham (0-1) answered just 42 seconds later on a goal by junior Pam Sagehorn. Barnhart countered with two goals in a span of 2:05 and Quinn added a goal at the 10:42 mark as Stevens increased its lead to 5-1.
Stevens, which hasn’t allowed more than four goals over its last three games, did not allow a goal in the second half as seven different players scored for the Ducks.
For the game, Gibbons finished with three goals and two assists while Quinn added three goals and one assist. Stevens held a 40-10 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Missy Scott (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) made four saves for the Ducks. Sophomore Jenn Kessler stopped nine shots for the Devils.
Sagehorn had two goals for FDU-Florham while Lisa Parry and Kerry McCarthy scored one goal each.
Stevens is back in action on Sunday, February 14, when it travels to Stevenson, Md., for a 4 p.m. game against Villa Julie College.
