GLASSBORO, N.J. - Rowan University scored six straight goals in a span of nine minutes to break open a close game in the second half and earn a 12-6 win over Stevens on Saturday in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.
Stevens (12-2) had its seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Rowan (6-4), which held a 4-3 lead at halftime received a free-position goal by sophomore Maggie Goodman at the start of the second half. Stevens countered with a goal by senior Juliet Pullis (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) with 27:03 left to pull the Ducks within 5-4.
Goodman, who finished with three goals - all in the second half - ignited a 6-0 Rowan run when she scored off an assist from senior Morgan Lang with 21:08 remaining. The Profs added goals by senior Becky Peterson (17:49), Goodman (16:47), freshman Katie Kline (15:53), Lang (13:53) and Peterson (12:23) to extend their lead to 11-4.
Juniors Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored goals 31 seconds apart to cut the Rowan lead to 11-6, but the Ducks could get no closer over the final ten minutes.
Pullis, Quinn and Barnhart scored two goals each for Stevens.
The Ducks are back in action on Wednesday, April 21, when they host Centenary College in a Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
