CENTER VALLEY, Pa.— Gina Malatesta tallied three goals and an assist to lead DeSales past Stevens Institute of Technology, 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the first-year Bulldogs even their record at 4-4. Stevens, who is also in its first year of varsity competition, falls to 0-6.
DeSales jumped out to an early lead just 5:38 into the game when Kaeleen Weiser knocked in a shot after a scramble in front of the net. The Bulldogs tallied two more goals in the first half to take a 3-0 advantage over the Ducks.
With less than one minute played in the second half, Malatesta put DeSales ahead 4-0. The Bulldogs continued to dominate the ball and scored two goals within the next 10 minutes of play. Weiser added her second goal of the day at the 59:30 mark to help lead her team to victory.
Stevens sophomore midfielder Cynthia Szewczyk (Hopewell, N.J./Northern Burlington) tallied her first career goal for the Ducks’ with one second remaining in the game.
For the Ducks, Katherine Freed (Rutherford, N.J.) had eight saves.
The Ducks return to action Saturday, October 2 when they travel to Union for a 5:30 p.m. game.
