Women's Fencing splits four matches at West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Andrea Chimel (Long Valley, N.Y./West Morris Central) went 11-1 as the Stevens women's fencing team split four matches on Sunday afternoon at the United States Military Academy.  The Ducks defeated James Madison and NJIT but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson and host Army.

Stevens (2-2) opened the day with a 16-11 win over James Madison and then cruised to a 19-8 victory over NJIT.  The Ducks then dropped a 21-6 decision to Army before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson 14-13 in a match that was determined by the final bout.

Chimel went 11-1 in epee competition with her only loss coming against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Stevens also had outstanding performances from four freshmen.  In sabre competition, Laura Sodon (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and Beatrice Wilson (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each went 8-4.

Freshmen Emily Freier (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) and Soo Jung Han (Norwood, N.J./Old Tappan) went 6-4 and 5-4 respectively in epee competition.

The Stevens women's fencing team is back in action on Sunday, January 23, when the Ducks travel to NJIT.
