Freshman Melanie Volk had five service aces in the victory over Farmingdale State.

HOBOKEN, NJ – Junior Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, FL) sits 90 digs shy of tying the school’s all-time digs record after registering 16 Monday night to lead The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference action at Canavan Arena. The Ducks won the first game, 30-17, the second game, 30-5, and the final game, 30-27. Stevens has not surrendered a game in conference play this season, improving to 4-0 in the Skyline Conference and 18-5 overall with the victory. The Rams drop to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the league with the loss.  

Ostroff’s 16 digs against Farmingdale State give her 1,162 for her career. She is currently in second place on the Stevens all-time list behind Margeritte Abdelokodoos who holds the mark with 1,252 digs from 2001-2004. Ostroff added four kills and a service ace against the Rams.

Freshman Melanie Volk (Thompson Station, TN) had a team-high eight kills without an error on 18 attempts. She also recorded 12 digs, a pair of assists and five service aces in the victory. Senior Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, FL) posted 18 assists, while junior Micki Biltz (Lakewood, OH) contributed seven.

The Ducks had a balanced attack with Ostroff and freshmen Summer Hamilton (San Diego, CA), Jess Gardner (Penfield, NY) and Michelle Mirza (Secaucus, NJ) each recording four kills, while sophomores Dawn Herring (Prince Frederick, MD) and JoAnne Pojuner (Princeton, NJ) and freshmen Bethany Rankie (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Melissa Rhode (New Orleans, LA) had three kills each.

Hamilton added three blocks for the Ducks and Herring had three kills, two service aces and two blocks in the match.

Stevens will travel to Kings Point, NY, on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to face U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m.
