HOBOKEN, NJ – Freshman Erin Brennan’s (Clark, NJ) first collegiate goal came in a timely fashion as her strike from close range with 2:26 remaining in the contest lifted The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Montclair State, under heavy rain at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ. The win – the Ducks’ 13th straight – extends their winning streak to 13 matches and their school-record non-conference winning streak to 10 matches. Stevens is now 13-1, while Montclair State fell to 5-7-2 with the loss.
Brennan, who was inserted into the game 10 minutes prior to the goal, received a cross from senior Lorrie Brabender Newark, DE) and touched it with her right foot, sending it past the Montclair State goal keeper for the winning score. Brennan entered the match with one career assist, recorded against Mount Saint Vincent on Sept. 26.
The Ducks had several opportunities to score prior to the goal, with several shots sailing just wide of the post.
Stevens controlled possession throughout the match, holding a 15-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Erica Mdttveit (Jackson, NJ) had a quiet night in goal, making one save, while registering her seventh shutout of the season. Montclair State goalkeeper Kristin Kuhmann had four stops.
After a four-game non-conference swing, the Ducks return to Skyline Conference action on Saturday, welcoming Farmingdale State to DeBaun Field for a 1 p.m. match.
