HOBOKEN, NJ – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team dropped a 98-78 decision to Manhattan on Friday at the DeBaun Aquatics Center in its opening meet of the 2005-06 season. Five Stevens individuals qualified for the ECAC Championships in the meet.
Freshman Emily Woo (Lodi, CA) posted ECAC qualifying times in three events on Friday, in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. She won the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:13.31 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.76. Woo swam the 100 butterfly in 1:02.69 to finish second in the race.
Senior Karen O’Shea (Union, NJ) and freshman Nicole Ogrosso (Staten Island, NY) each qualified for the ECACs in two different events. O’Shea placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.37 and finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.37, earning ECAC qualifying times in both events. O’Shea won the 500 freestyle, finishing the race in 6:01.45. Ogrosso finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:52.36, while also taking top honors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.63 to qualify in both events.
Senior Jess Pruzinsky (Garfield, NJ) finished second to Woo in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.06 to qualify for the ECACs. Senior Diana Rooney (Clifton, NJ) clocked a 28.53 in the 50 freestyle to place fourth in the race and qualify for the ECAC Championships.
In all, the Ducks took first place in five races against Manhattan.
The women will join the men in competition against William Paterson at the DeBaun Aquatics Center, Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.
