ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth stopped the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team’s four-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Ducks Saturday afternoon in Rochester, NY. The Ducks fall to 10-6 with the loss, while Nazareth improves to 2-13.
Nazareth recorded the first three goals of the match, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second to earn the victory.
The Ducks got on the board in the 69th minute with the freshmen tandem of Alli Shields (Mahopac, NY) and Hillary Paul (Concord, MH) connecting for the goal, with Shields the beneficiary of her ninth goal of the season. Shields was active offensively with five shots, while senior Valerie Banhart (Gilbertsville, PA) added three shots for the Ducks.
Nazareth held a 14-13 edge in shots in the contest, while Stevens had eight penalty corners to six for Nazareth.
Stevens freshman goalie Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, DE) and Nazareth netminder Katie May each had six saves in the match.
The Ducks will conclude their regular season tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match at SUNY Brockport.
