Field Hockey Falls To Brockport, 2-0, In Regular-Season Finale

BROCKPORT, NY – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team closed its regular season with a 2-0 loss at SUNY Brockport Sunday afternoon in Brockport, NY. The Ducks, in just their second season as a varsity sport, end the regular season 10-7 overall after recording a 1-15 record in the inaugural season. The Ducks avenged six losses to opponents they faced last season, while three of their losses in 2005 where by one goal. Stevens now waits to see if it will earn a bid to the ECAC Championships when selections are announced, Monday, Nov. 7.

Brockport (8-9) capitalized on two scoring opportunities late in the first half to secure the victory. Amanda Pickard scored in the 30th minute for Brockport and Andrea Vitello added an insurance goal off a rebounded shot four minutes later.

Brockport outshot Stevens, 22-12 in the match, however the Ducks held a sizable 14-3 advantage in penalty corners. 

Freshman Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, DE) made seven saves in goal for the Ducks, while her counterpart, Michelle Zelich had six stops for Brockport. Stevens registered eight defensive saves in the contest.
