Women’s Volleyball Falls to No. 4 NYU in Regional Semifinal, 3-1

NEW YORK, NY (NOVEMBER 11, 2005) The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team was eliminated from the NCAA Regional Playoffs with a 3-1 loss to NYU on Friday night.  The Ducks finish their season 31-6, their highest wins ever in the program’s history.

Stevens dropped the first two games of the match (30-18, 30-22), but rebounded with a 30-23 win in the third game.

With the fourth game tied 14-14, the Violets scored the next seven points to secure the 30-21 victory.

Freshman Melanie Volk (Thompson Station, TN) led the Ducks with 11 kills, while junior Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, FL) contributed a team high 14 digs.  Senior setter Gina Joyce (Fort Myers, FL) added 23 assists and six digs.  Sophomore Dawn Herring (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) and junior Micki Biltz (Lakewood, OH) each contributed three aces.  Freshman Summer Hamilton (San Diego, CA) and Joyce added three blocks each.
