HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 28, 2005) – Senior Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled 11 points and pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team to a 61-43 victory over Ramapo College on Monday night at the Canavan Arena. With the win, the Ducks improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Roadrunners drop to 2-2 with the loss.
Leading by only three at the break, 27-24, the Ducks used a 10-1 run in the span of 5:54 in the middle of the second half to take a commanding 41-30 lead. Stevens held its biggest lead of the game, 53-37, after using another 10-1 run with 8:15 to play in the game. The Ducks shot 40.6 percent from the field in the half and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Trailing 10-4 in the first half, Stevens tied the game 13-13 with 8:17 remaining. The Ducks never trailed the rest of the way.
Sophomore Jean Matusiak (Glendale, N.Y.) led all scorers with 16 points in the game. Sophomore Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) totaled 13 points and 14 rebounds and freshman Dani Dudek (Rockaway, N.J.) added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Stevens.
Stevens held Ramapo to 22.7 percent shooting from the floor in the game and forced 19 turnovers by the Roadrunners.
For Ramapo, junior Kelly Bartz (Madison, N.J.) led with 12 points, while senior Lisa Fischman (Bloomfield, N.J.) pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.
The Ducks return to action on Wednesday, November 30 when they travel to Bronx, N.Y. to play Lehman College at 7 p.m.
