MADISON, N.J. (December 6, 2005) – Three Ducks tallied double digits with sophomore Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) leading with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team dropped a 69-50 decision to Drew University on Tuesday night at Baldwin Gymnasium. The loss drops the Ducks to 3-4 on the season. Sophomore Jean Matusiak (Glendale, N.Y.) added 13 points, while senior Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled 11 for the Ducks.
With the game tied at 26 with less then four minutes to play in the first half, Drew scored four straight points to take a 30-26 lead. Gambino answered back with a layup to bring the Ducks within two, but Courtney Cunningham sank a three-pointer with 1:10 remaining to give the Rangers a five-point half time advantage.
Stevens opened up the second half with a three-pointer by Gambino to close Drew’s lead to two. The Rangers used a 5-0 run in the next minute of play to take their biggest lead of the game, 38-31. After three turnovers by the Ducks, the Rangers took a commanding 14-point lead they would not relinquish. Drew led by as many as 22 points in the half.
Drew held Stevens to 37 percent shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers by the Ducks.
The Ducks return to action on Friday, December 9 when they host Mount Saint Vincent in their Skyline Opener at 7 p.m.
