Gambino leads Women's Basketball to fifth straight win over Baruch, 67-56

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Junior forward Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Academy) tallied a game-high 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team past Baruch in a non-conference game on Monday night.

With the win, Stevens snaps Baruch’s eight-game win streak and improves to 14-6.  With the loss Baruch falls to 18-4.

With 1:38 remaining in the game, Stevens only held a four-point advantage over Baruch.  However, an 8-1 run in the last 1:30 sealed the Ducks' fifth consecutive win, 67-56.

After taking an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, Baruch cut the Ducks' lead to 10-6 in a span of 3:51.  Baruch kept the game close for the next 2:30 minutes, but Stevens increased its intensity and led by as many as 15 points at two different points in the first half.  The Ducks entered the break with a 12-point advantage, leading 37-25.  Freshman guard Jean Matusiak (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) scored all of her nine points to lead the Ducks in the half.

Two other Stevens freshmen scored in double digits in the game with guard Jackie Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn./Suffield Academy) scoring 14 points and seven rebounds and forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) netting 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Ducks return to action on Wednesday, February 9 when they travel to Manhattanville for  a Skyline game beginning at 7 p.m.
