GRANTHAM, Pa. – Senior attack Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored four goals including the game winner to lead Stevens Institute of Technology past Messiah on Wednesday afternoon in a women’s lacrosse game.
With the win, Stevens improves to 4-0, while Messiah drops to 3-1.
Senior midfielder Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) added two goals, while sophomore midfielder Theresa Dolan (Alberton, N.Y./Mineola) and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Roes (Stillwater, N.J./Pope John XXIII) each added a goal for the Ducks in the game.
With the score tied 3-3 entering the second half, the Ducks held a two goal advantage at two different points of the half. Messiah scored with 1:53 remaining to close to within one, but the Stevens defense remained strong and shut down the Falcons for the remainder of the game. Barnhart netted the game-winning goal, her second of the season.
After Messiah scored two goals within the first 5:30 of the game, Roes got the Ducks on the board with her first career goal at 7:43. Dolan tallied her fourth goal of the season to bring the Ducks within one. With 16 seconds left in the first half, Barnhart netted a goal to tie the game 3-3 going into the break.
Freshman Stephanie Linder (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) continued to play solid in goal and made a season-high 13 saves for the Ducks.
Stevens is back in action on its Saturday, March 19, when it plays Babson at 5:30 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
