Women’s Lacrosse suffers first loss of season to No. 8 Gettysburg, 8-6

Senior Rebecca Quinn tallied a hat trick against tenth-ranked Gettysburg.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Senior attack Kathy Delauney tallied a hat trick, to lead eighth-ranked Gettysburg past Stevens Institute of Technology, 8-6, on Wednesday morning in a women’s lacrosse game.

With the loss Stevens drops to 5-1, while Gettysburg moves to 5-1.

Senior attack Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) netted a goal and an assist and senior midfielder Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) tallied two goals for the Ducks in the game.

Trailing 5-2 at halftime, Stevens scored four goals in less than 10 minutes to tie the game at 6-6 with less than 20 minutes remaining.  Gettysburg increased its lead to 6-2 with a goal at the 27:58 mark, but Quinn answered back with her third goal of the game at 25:56.  Mirra netted her first goal of the game a minute later to bring the Ducks within two.  Barnhart scored her first goal of the day to bring Stevens within one at the 23:14 mark.  Freshman midfielder Liz Mather (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) sent a pass to Mirra in front of the goal to tie the score 6-6 with 18:47 on the clock.  The Bullets stayed strong and netted goals at the 13:52 and 5:05 mark to secure the 8-6 win.  

Gettysburg took an early 3-0 lead before Quinn put Stevens on the board at 13:21.  The Bullets countered with two more goals before Quinn netted her second goal at 6:29 in the first half. 

Freshman Stephanie Linder (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made 11 saves for the Ducks.

Stevens returns home on Wednesday, March 30, when it hosts Oneonta State in a 4 p.m. game at DeBaun Field.
