NEW YORK, NY – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team (7-2) suffered a 3-0 loss to New York University (7-2) Wednesday night in New York, NY. Stevens nearly pulled off the victory in the first game before falling, 30-27. The Ducks could not recover, dropping the second game, 30-9, and the third game, 30-23.
Freshman Melissa Rhode (New Orleans, LA) led Stevens with seven kills, while sophomore Dawn Herring (Prince Frederick, MD) contributed six. Junior setter Micki Biltz (Lakewood, OH) had 19 assists for the Ducks. Junior Rachel Ostroff (N. Miami, FL) had a team-high 14 digs, while Biltz added nine. Biltz and freshman Jess Gardner (Penfield, NY) each had a block assist for Stevens.
NYU’s Jennifer Gardikas had a game-high 17 kills, while Kim Novak contributed 38 assists for the Violets.
Stevens will be back in action Saturday, opening Skyline Conference play against Old Westbury at noon and SUNY Maritime at 2 p.m. in Throgs Neck, NY.
