Women’s Volleyball Defeats Villa Julie, Falls to Lebanon Valley in First Day of Salisbury Tournament

SALISBURY, MD (SEPTEMBER 30) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team earned a 3-0 shut out over Villa Julie in their first session, but fell to Lebanon Valley 2-3 in the second session of the Salisbury Tournament in Salisbury, MD Friday evening.  Stevens now stands at 12-3 on the season.

Against Villa Julie Stevens earned three straight wins 30-27, 30-25 and 30-19.  Junior Micki Biltz (Lakewood, OH) led the Ducks with 26 assists and four digs.  Sophomore Dawn Herring (Prince Frederick, MD) registered eight kills, 14 digs and five aces. Freshman Melissa Rhode (New Orleans, LA) had 10 kills and three aces.  Freshman Summer Hamilton (San Diego, CA) finished with seven kills and three blocks, while freshman Melanie Volk (Thompson Station, TN) posted seven kills and two aces.

The Ducks won two of the first three games with Lebanon Valley (30-23, 30-32, 30-28), before dropping the last two games (17-30, 9-15).  Herring totaled 18 kills and 13 digs, while Volk had 17 kills and 12 digs.  Junion Rachel Ostroff (North Miami, FL) tallied 24 digs, which puts her just 13 short of 1000 for her career.  Rhode registered 10 kills and 9 digs.  Hamilton produced 12 kills and Biltz totaled 58 assists and 10 digs.  Freshman Jess Gardner (New Penfield, NY) had six kills, four blocks and three aces in the five set match.

On Saturday, Stevens is scheduled to play tournament host, Salisbury at noon and Williams at 2 p.m.
