Freshman Courtney Geddis netted her eighth goal of the season against DeSales.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 11, 2006) – Freshman forward Courtney Geddis (Jackson, N.J.) netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team dropped to DeSales University in overtime, 3-2, on Wednesday at DeBaun Field.   With the loss, the Ducks dropped to 8-5, while the Bulldogs improved to 9-5 with the win.

DeSales got on the board 11:07 into the game when freshman forward Meghan Iudicello (Nazareth, Pa.) found sophomore forward Amanda Deal (Macungie, Pa.) set up on the left side of the net.  Deal sent a shot past sophomore goalie Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

With 20 seconds remaining in the half, Stevens answered back on a corner opportunity taken by freshman midfielder Kara Borzillo (Medford, N.J.).  Borzillo collected a pass from Geddis to tie the score 1-1 at the break.

The Bulldogs regained the lead in the second half off a corner opportunity by junior forward Jen Pulcini (Easton, Pa.).  Senior midfielder Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, Pa.) registered the assist on the play.

The Ducks tied the game, 2-2, ten minutes later when Geddis collected a rebounded shot by sophomore defender Casey Scherck (Virginia Beach, Va.).

With five minutes remaining in regulation, Stevens had an opportunity to put the game away, but Geddis’ shot sailed just wide of the net.

DeSales netted the game-winner 2:01 into the overtime period when Iudicello touched in a goal from the left side.

Smith registered five saves in goal for the Ducks, while freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, Md.) made six for the Bulldogs.

Stevens out-shot DeSales 19-9 and held a 9-5 advantage in corners in the contest.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Wilson College at noon.
