Sara Roeder has totaled 10 goals and nine assists this season.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 14, 2006) – Junior forward/back Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore.) and sophomore forward Alison Amos (Plano, Texas) combined for five goals and an assist as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team blanked Mount Saint Mary College by the score of 8-0 on Saturday at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, N.J.  The Ducks dominated play throughout the game as they out-shot the Blue Knights 43-2 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Stevens, which is unbeaten in its last nine games (8-0-1), improved to 9-2-3 overall and 5-0 in the Skyline Conference with the win.  The Ducks also extended their conference unbeaten streak to 45 straight games, which is the fifth-longest streak in Division III women’s soccer history.  In addition, Stevens posted a new entry into the NCAA record book as it equaled Ohio Northern University’s string of 23 straight home games without a loss, which is the 15th-longest streak in D-III history.  The Ducks have not lost at DeBaun Field since a 3-0 setback to The College of New Jersey on October 20, 2004.  Ohio Northern established its mark from November 1996 until October 1998.

Junior midfielder Siena York-Carr (Davis, Calif.) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than seven minutes into the game as she intercepted a clearing attempt by Mount Saint Mary and rifled a shot from 20 yards out that eluded sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Thibault (Watertown, Conn.).  Just over two minutes later, senior midfielder/forward Megan Legendre (O’Fallon, Ill.) scored off a corner kick by Roeder to extend the Ducks’ lead to 2-0.

At 17:29 of the first half, Roeder scored her first of three consecutive goals.  On the play, freshman midfielder Alicia Vandersluis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sent a cross from the right end-line that deflected off the head of sophomore midfielder Audra Clark (Dallas, Texas) and then hit Roeder’s leg before going into the goal.  Roeder finished the game with three goals and an assist for seven points.  She has amassed a team-best 29 points from 10 goals and nine assists so far this season.

Leading 5-0 at the half, Stevens added to its advantage in the second stanza when Amos received a pass from junior forward Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, N.Y.) at the top of the box and sent a shot toward the goal that slipped through the out-stretched arms of sophomore backup goalkeeper Shannon Colligan (East Northport, N.Y.).  Amos picked up her second goal of the game at 67:44 when she somehow curled the ball into the back of the net off her own corner kick.  On the play, Amos sent a high bending ball that eluded all Mount defenders before hitting the ground and then bouncing under the crossbar for her sixth career goal.

Crifasi closed out the scoring with 16 seconds remaining in the game as she received a pass from sophomore forward Meghan Tennyson (Folsom, La.) at the top of the box and chipped a shot over the head of Colligan.

Senior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) made one save in 74 minutes of action for the Ducks.  In the process, she lowered her goals against average to 0.73 on the season.  Thibault had 10 saves for the Blue Knights in the first half.  Colligan recorded eight stops in the second period.

In five conference games this year, Stevens has out-scored its opponents 29-0.  The Ducks also continued a remarkable trend on Saturday as York-Carr became the ninth different player to record a game-winning goal in each of the team’s nine wins this season.

Stevens will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Manhattanville College in a key Skyline match-up at 4 p.m.  Fans that are interested in watching that game can check out the live video webcast at www.duckcast.com.
