HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 20, 2006) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team opened up its 2006-07 season against Manhattan College on Friday night. The Ducks won five of 11 events on the day, but were defeated by the Jaspers 103-84. Senior Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del.) set a new pool record for Stevens in the 100-butterfly, while sophomores Nicole Ogrosso (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Emily Woo (Lodi, Calif.) each won two events.
Ogrosso earned top honors in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 11:56.41 and 5:50.06. Woo finished first in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke. Woo won the IM in a time of 2:20.17 and finished the backstroke with a time of 1:06.41. Brabender earned a first-place finish and set a new pool record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.81.
The men’s swimming team opens up its 2006-07 season on Thursday when it hosts the College of Staten Island at 6 p.m.
