HARTWICK, N.Y. (October 28, 2006) – Freshman forward Courtney Geddis (Jackson, N.J.) netted a goal with 57 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, but the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell to Hartwick College, 3-2, in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.  The loss dropped the Ducks to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8, while the Hawks improved to 6-10 and 3-3 in the league with the win.

Junior forward Beth Rychcik (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) gave Stevens a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the game off a rebounded shot.  Rychcik has now netted goals in two straight games for the Ducks.

Senior forward Jenev Schilling (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) tied the game 1-1 right before the break off a corner opportunity.  Sophomore forward Annie Yager (Greene, N.Y.) scored the go-ahead goal for Hartwick in the 53rd minute of the game.

Stevens tied the game 2-2 off a corner opportunity with just under a minute to play in regulation.  After sophomore midfielder Allison Shields (Mahopac, N.Y.) rocketed a shot off the post, Geddis collected the rebound and totaled her team-leading ninth goal of the season to send the game into overtime.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first overtime.  Senior forward Molly Joyce (Brant Lake, N.Y.) netted the game-winner for the Hawks in the second overtime period.

The Hawks out-shot the Ducks 11-9 in regulation and 3-0 in overtime.  They also held a 11-8 advantage in penalty corners in the game.

Sophomore Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) made nine saves in the game for Stevens.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Ithaca College in its last game of the season at 1 p.m.
