Sophomore Allison Shields netted her first goal of the season in Stevens victory over Ithaca.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 7, 2006) – Sophomore midfielder Hillary Paul (Concord, N.H.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team past Ithaca College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at DeBaun Field.   With the win, the Ducks improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8, while the Bombers dropped to 4-7 and 3-2 in the conference with the loss.

Stevens got on the board with 20 seconds remaining in the first half when it took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity.  Paul found sophomore midfielder Allison Shields (Manhopac, N.Y.) in front of the net after the initial play to give the Ducks a 1-0 advantage headed into the break.

Stevens increased its lead to 2-0 in the second half after Paul’s initial shot made contact with an Ithaca player’s foot, which resulted in a penalty stroke.  Paul connected on the shot, sending the goal into the lower right corner of the net.

The Ducks dominated play in the game and out-shot the Bombers 19-4.  Stevens held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Sophomore Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) was not tested in the game as she picked up her eighth win of the season.  Senior Andrea Baraiola (Wallingford, Conn.) registered 10 saves for Ithaca.

Stevens will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts DeSales University at 6 p.m.
