Tim Williams had 23 points and seven rebounds as Stevens defeated Yeshiva, 73-63.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 13, 2006) – Junior forward Tim Williams (Selden, N.Y.) connected on 10 of 12 shots in the game and finished with 23 points as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball snapped a two-game losing streak with a 73-63 victory over Yeshiva University on Monday evening at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J.  Williams added seven rebounds and two blocked shots as the Ducks improved to 12-11 on the year, including 7-6 in the Skyline Conference.  The Maccabees fell to 11-11 (8-6 Skyline) with the loss.

Leading by five points with two minutes remaining in the first half, Stevens went on a quick 8-2 run to grab a 40-29 halftime advantage.  Junior guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.) scored on a lay-up to start things off for the Ducks.  Sophomore guard Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) hit a lay-up with six seconds left in the half.

Following intermission, Stevens pushed its lead to 16 points (49-33) with five minutes gone in the second period.  The Ducks were never really challenged from that point on as they maintained a double-digit lead until junior center Harel Vatavu (Ramat-Gan, Israel) hit two free throws with 2:16 remaining to bring the Maccabees within nine points (67-58).

Stevens held on despite going 4-for-11 from the foul line in the final two minutes.

Farid finished with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting.  He also had five rebounds.  Freshman Virgil Gray II (Elmwood Park, N.J.) was four of seven from the floor and 2-for-3 from downtown for 11 points.

Yeshiva was led by senior guard Benjamin Golbert (Jerusalem, Israel), who had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists.  Junior guard Ian Ribald (Dallas, Texas) had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Stevens shot 57.1 percent (16-for-28) from the field in the first half and made 53.8 percent (28-for-52) of its shots for the game.  Yeshiva shot 55.0 percent (11-for-20) from the field in the first half and 48.9 percent (22-for-45) for the game.

The Ducks will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Centenary College to face the Cyclones.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Hackettstown, N.J.
