Women's Lacrosse Downs Centenary College in Final Conference Match-Up of Regular Season

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 22, 2006) - The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team netted the first 12 goals of the game en route to a 19-2 defeat of Centenary College on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, N.J. at DeBaun Field. With the win, the Ducks improve to 5-9 overall (4-2) and clinch the third seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament.

Stevens opened up a quick 5-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. They continued to score seven more goals before Centenary was able to get on the board. Freshman midfielder Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md.) led the Ducks with three goals, while freshman attack Dana Perriello (Pittsburgh, Pa.), freshman midfielder Ali Palen (Walden, N.Y.) and senior attack Melissa Scott (Barnegat, N.J.) each added two goals apiece during the spurt. Sophomore attack Liz Mather (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and Joanna Sweetgall (Allendale, N.J.) also netted goals within that 12:05 span. Sophomore Jen Ramirez (Morristown, N.J.) added her second goal of the season with 54 seconds to play in the half.

Mather, Hopkins and senior attack Mary Schurgot (Barnegat, N.J.) opened up the second half with goals to give the Ducks a 16-1 advantage. Centenary scored its second goal at the 15:15 mark, but Stevens added the final three goals of the game to claim the victory.

Eleven different Ducks scored in the game with Hopkins leading the way with four. Stevens out-shot Centenary 34-5 and finished 5-for-10 in free position goals. The Ducks also controlled 16 out of 23 draw controls and were successful in 15 out of 16 clear attempts.

Stevens is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Colorado College at 11 a.m.
