Women's Lacrosse Drops to Colorado College in Regular-Season Finale

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 23, 2006) - Sophomore attack Mallory Newton (Darien, Conn.) led Colorado College with four goals as they defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team, 14-7, on Sunday afternoon in Hoboken, N.J. at DeBaun Field. With the loss, the Ducks wrap up their regular season at 5-10.

Colorado opened up a quick 5-0 lead within the first 15 minutes of the game. Stevens closed the gap to within three when freshman Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md.) netted two goals within a 3:20 span. The Tigers netted goals at 5:16 and 4:47 to take a 7-2 halftime advantage.

Hopkins added her third goal of the game to open up the second half as she brought the Ducks to within four. However, Colorado tallied the next five goals to take its biggest lead of the day, 12-3. The Ducks scored three straight goals to knock the Tigers lead down to six. Colorado answered back with goals by junior attack Kate Fitzgerald (Sudbury, Mass.) and Mallory to seal the game.

Colorado out-shot Stevens 26-20 in the game. The Tigers were successful on 2 out of 4 free-position shots, while Stevens was 2-for-9.

Stevens is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Purchase, N.Y. to play Manhattanville College in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Championship at 7 p.m.
