Epee Squad Leads the Way as Women’s Fencing Opens Second Semester with Three Victories

Maia Hadidi tallied seven wins for the Ducks on Sunday.

ROCKY POINT, N.Y. (January 21, 2007) – Freshman Alexis Sowuleski (Little Silver, N.J.) posted a team-best 8-1 mark in leading the epee squad to a 19-8 showing on the day as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s fencing team claimed three victories on Sunday in Rocky Point, N.Y.  The Ducks defeated Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University (16-11), Hunter College (15-12) and the United States Military Academy (15-12).

In the epee, Stevens (4-2) received a strong effort from sophomore Rachel Cannell (Asbury, N.J.), who went 6-3 on the day.  Junior Emily Freier (Manalapan, N.J.) earned five victories as well.

Senior Maia Hadidi (Lakewood, N.J.) tallied a 7-2 ledger for the sabre squad, which went 17-10 in the three dual meets.  Sophomore Erica Mondadori (Secaucus, N.J.) totaled seven wins in the sabre.

The foil squad was led by senior Colleen Kirk (Churchville, Pa.), who claimed five victories for the Ducks.  Overall, the foil squad collected 10 wins.

Stevens will return to action on Sunday, January 28 in Sweet Briar, Va.  The competition is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
